Why drink from the Water fountain
Every year albatross and sea birds die from swallowing plastic stoppers, caught with the beak from the Pacific. The Hotel offers a stainless steel flask, to be recharged at the fountain placed at the reception. One and a half deciliter for each one liter bottle of bottled water in Switzerland; 3.1 dl for that coming from the European Union, between raw material needed to produce plastic and road transport up to our homes: compared to 0.003 dl of running water. For every person who started drinking from the tap alone, the saving would be of the consideration of 2 thousand kilometers traveled by car.
Each customer will receive a bottle to be filled during the stay; and when he leaves, he can buy it for 25 francs.
Where does tap water end?
In the worst case, however, spending remains irrelevant. Drinking at the tap means paying a thousand times less: even if, for now, running water that ends up in dishes and glasses in Ticino is only 2 liters a day per person. The average consumption per capita relative to households is 242 liters per day per inhabitant, data provided by the Department of the territory, Section for air, water and soil protection: 57 more than the Swiss average, 185 liters, but much less than in the past. In 2002 there were also peaks of 530 liters, recall the tables compiled by the Observatory of territorial development: today consumption has become more sustainable, "due to an improvement of the infrastructure and a more rational use of water". 29% ended up in the toilet, 19.6% in the bathtubs or in the showers, 18.6% was for the washing machines, 17% was used to cook, drink or hand-wash the dishes; the body care and hand-washing take 12.8%, the dishwasher 2.2% while the irrigation of the gardens and other uses complete the picture with 2.3%.
